We
are excited to launch our new curriculum from the Institute of Southern
Jewish Life (ISJL). Since their opening in 2000, more than 100
congregations in 13 states have adapted their curriculum. ISJL will
provide our students with a structured spiral curriculum, ensuring the
mastering of skills through thematic units of study, and will ensure
teachers ongoing professional development. ISJL provides us with an
Education Fellow, who will visit our community twice during the year,
helping with religious school programs, teacher programs, community
education and general events.
Our ISJL fellow for the next two
years, Shelby Deeley, will be here for her first visit on August
28th-29th. On Friday she will train teachers and meet our community at
Shabbat services. On Saturday, she will assist in leading the
Children’s Shabbat Service. Please join us to welcome Shelby to our
congregation.
The school year begins on Thursday, September 3,
from 4:15-5:30pm. Parents are invited to join their children for our
Open House. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about the year
ahead as children meet their classmates and teacher(s). First FULL day
of school is September 10th. Religious school enrollment forms for the
2009-2010 academic year are now due.
